J. Cole: Cole World (The Sideline Story)

For the past year, this dude has had more buzz than any other emcee on the blogs. Everything posted seemed to somehow end up relating to the talent of Jermaine. All this pressure really built up to the built up to the point of expectations of him releasing the next "Illmatic." Unfortunately J. Cole sticks with the trend of this year and puts out an album WAY below expectations. On first listen, this album is dull and uninspiring. BUT DON'T SLEEP ON IT. Give it a few more listens. It really grows on you! This is yet another album that you have to listen to as an album. Everything comes together as full idea if you listen to the whole thing. Yes, there are a few misses (Cole World, Work Out & Mr. Nice Watch). But overall, J. Cole's really done the best he could do and really impressed me with this album. This is the best debut album we've heard in years and we should cherish this project.

Tracklist:

1. Intro
2. Dollar and a Dream III - This beat really reminds me of a vintage J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League beat at the beginning. It switches up like three times in the song which was really refreshing (nice job The University). Cole continues the Dollar & a Dream series as he spits on how he's had to be cautious about selling out. It's a very unique and true idea that he's come up with here. Favorite Song!!!
3. Can’t Get Enough (feat. Trey Songz) - This was the first radio single from the album. It didn't do as well as expected on the charts, but it's a great song nonetheless. Trey gives a nice hook about all his bitches! The beats got a very Latin feel to it. Cole brags about his swag and about his many stories of sex. It's a great mainstream crossover.
4. Lights Please - This is a real timeless gem that Cole cooked up here. Even though it's two years old, it's still refreshing to hear. The beat is very simple, but it fits with the simple hook and complex lyrics. At first listen it sounds like a simple sex song. But in reality it shows how Cole uses sex to clear his mind from all the realities he's having to face about life. It's the most real song on the album, because it's so typically human to use sex as an excuse to stay away from the unjust parts in life.
5. Interlude
6. Sideline Story
7. Mr. Nice Watch (feat. Jay-Z) - This song was a cool concept but it wasn't executed well. Jigga murks his verse. Cole is a little underwhelming as he focuses on his riches a little too much.. which doesn't make sense because he's an upcoming rapper who hasn't dropped a full album till now.. so technically he shouldn't have any riches? Idk maybe that's just me, but it feels like dishonest after Dollar & a Dream III. Oh and it's got the most experimental beat on the album. It's like hip-hop + dubstep. And I must say, it was a well done instrumental. Too bad J. Cole didn't do a little more with the lyrics. This one I grew tired of.
8. Cole World
9. In The Morning (feat. Drake) - Believe it or not, this is the oldest song on the album. It originally dropped on his mixtape "The Warm Up." Then it was partially redone with a new Drake verse for "Friday Night Lights." It's a sex song, but J. Cole really flexes nice lyrics here. He's got a very smooth flow here especially on that "get all defensive, apprehensive all because of my career" line. Drake also does his thing, but it sounds like he gargled ten pounds of sound before he went in the booth. For real, did this dude have a soar throat or something? Clear your damn throat before you rap man.
10. Lost Ones - This is another really deep song. It's got a very deep meaning as he tells the story of the thoughts that rush through a young couple as they deal with a unexpected pregnancy. J. Cole really goes deep when he pretends to be the woman: "you got some nerve, comin up to me talking about abortion, this my body so don't think you finna force shit!" or "I let you hit it raw motherfucka, now I'm pregnant, you don't wanna get in involved muthafucka?" The song leaked a few months ago, but J. Cole added a few more instrumentals to make the beat more interesting. But don't worry, he left the lyrics alone (thank god!). This one's a must have.
11. Nobody’s Perfect (feat. Missy Elliott) - Cool little guitar driven jammer here. J. Cole's flow is a little slow and boring on that first verse but he makes up for it on the second verse. The real highlight is Missy Elliot's hook. DAMN that girl can sing! She reminds me of a vintage soul singer over that soulful beat. Nice little love song about how imperfect people can get lucky and find someone worth it (I can feel that ahaha)
12. Never Told - Soulful No I.D. beat on this track. J. Cole speaks on all the things he would never tell his momma! He mostly raps about how his busy life in the spotlight has been breaking up his relationship life. Another very true song from Cole. He's gotta be the most honest rapper in the game.
13. Rise and Shine - Kinda got that "Good Morning. Cole cooks up a really warlike beat for this track. He speaks on how he will take any of his haters or competitors on. His voice lott better than it usually is on this one. Which is nice because he can get a little boring at times.
14. God’s Gift - It's got a really dope high pitched vocal sample, as Cole speaks on he came up, found himself a spot on "Blueprint 3" and got signed. He talks about how he wants to live the fast life even if he isn't the richest (which is interesting cuz most rappers want JUST the money). "Every verse spittin like it's my last one".. story of J. Cole's rap life.
15. Breakdown- Very original beat with what sounds like an orchestra and a bass guitar. Cole does some  classic storytellin' as he tells a few stories of people in their daily life. One story is the last verse where he speaks on a young women who tries to enjoy herself at the clubs to distract herself from her abusive relationship.
16. Work Out (Bonus)
17. Who Dat (Bonus)- This was one of the first Cole songs I ever downloaded. It's a classic posse cut. You won't be able to stop yourself from hollerin' "Who Dat? Who Dat?" when you hear this song. It's a great introduction to J. Cole the emcee. Another timeless song that actually belongs on the album.
18. Daddy's Little Girl (Bonus)
Cole World is a really an impressive feat. It's not perfect, but it's a great effort. Some will complain it's full of old songs. But "Lights Please", "In The Morning", and "Who Dat" are all songs that sound good even after two years. The album is full of refreshingly honest songs. In a world of rap that's full of distrust and lying (yea I'm talking about Officer Ricky), Cole really speaks about his ACTUAL life and it's appreciated. He's like a calm Tyler, the Creator because he's a real conscious guy who speaks about what's on his mind. Overall, Cole really impressed me with this one. I wasn't the hugest fan of him (I like Lights Please, Who Dat, and few of the songs off of "Friday Night Lights" and "Warm Up" but that's about it). But now, he's moved up into my favorites. Imma keep my eye for this young dude because he's on the verge of joining the greats. All though he's not there yet, this album is a great foundation for a classic emcee to be. Again, DON'T SLEEP on this album because it's gonna be looked back as a great debut album. With each listen, I appreciate this album a little more. Please support because you're in for a great surprise with this project.

Evidence: Cats & Dogs

This was the favorite album (yes... over Cole World) released today by many hip hop fans. The Dilated People's rapper definitely raps his ass off on this project. A majority of this album is produced by Alchemist which is always a positive. It's a little too dull for me, but I can't deny Ev's talents on the mic. If you like underground rap or relaxed rap, then this album is a must have

Tracklist:

1. The Liner Notes (feat. Aloe Blacc)
2. Strangers
3. The Red Carpet (feat. Raekwon & Ras Kass)
4. It Wasn’t Me
5. I Don’t Need Love
6. You
7. God Bless That Man
8. Fame (feat. Roc Marciano & Prodigy)
9. James Hendrix (Stepbrothers)
10. Late For The Sky (feat. Slug & Aesop Rock)
11. Crash
12. Where You Come From? (feat. Rakaa, Lil Fame & Termanology)
- Nice little sample of Jay Electronica's "Exhibit C" as the hook. The beat sounds like it could be something from Star Wars ahah. Evidence & Terminology hold it down for the white rappers that can actually rap on this one. Fellow member of Dilated Peoples also goes in!
14. To Be Continued…
15. Falling Down - This track features a nice, fast paced beat from the new comer Rahki. Evidence speaks on how reaching for his dreams didn't always result in success.
16. Well Runs Dry (feat. Krondon)
17. The Epilogue

9th Wonder: The Wonder Years

9th Wonder is definitely one of the illest producers out there. His signature chopped up sampling is legendary across the hip-hop game. "The Wonder Years" features countless impressive underground instrumentals mixed with the most well-known underground emcees in the game. Overall, the album is a great project and introduction to 9th's work.

Tracklist:

1. Make It Big (feat. Khrysis)
2. Band Practice Part 2 (feat. Phonte & Median)
- From the moment this song starts, it captures your interest as Tigolo says "I wanna kiss you" ahaha. Then the beat drops and Phonte goes off over the boom bap instumental. From there, the two emcees kick rhymes back and forth. Nice track.
3. Enjoy (feat. Warren G, Murs & Kendrick Lamar)
4. Streets of Music (feat. Tanya Morgan & Enigma)
5. Hearing The Melody (feat. Skyzoo, Fashawn & King Mez)
6. Loyalty (feat. Masta Killa & Halo) - This is a real J Dilla sounding beat, but it's got that signature 9th Wonder sampling on it. Masta Killa does a surprising verse because he really gives the ladies some crooning (which is different than his typical raps of violence). Very relaxing track. Killa really works over this type of a beat.
7. Now I’m Being Cool (feat. Mela Machinko & Mez)
8. Never Stop Loving You (feat. Terrace Martin & Talib Kweli)
9. Piranhas (feat. Blu & Sundown) - Blu's been all over the place lately. The moment this beat starts off, you know he's gonna kill it. Sundown (who sounds a lot like Royce Da 5'9") also goes off on this beat. This one's a must have. The beat is vintage 9th shit right here.
10. Peanut Butter & Jelly (feat. Marsha Ambrosius)
11. One Night (feat. Terrace Martin, Phonte, & Bird and The Midnight Falcons)
12. Your Smile (feat. Holly Weerd & Thee Tom Hardy)
13. No Pretending (feat. Raekwon & Big Remo)
14. 20 Feet Tall (feat. Erykah Badu & Rapsody)
15. That’s Love (feat. Mac Miller & Heather Victoria)
16. A Star U R (feat. Terrace Martin, Problem & GQ)
17. Band Practice (feat. Phonte)
18. Me & My Nuh (feat. Teedra Moses)
19. Base for Your Face (feat. Phonte, Jean Grae & Lil B) - The song leaked a few months ago but it's still just as shocking as when it first dropped. Based God definitely holds his own over a very classic instrumental. Jean Grae... damn that girl's a problem. She's my favorite female emcee in the game HANDS DOWN. And Phonte does his thing as always. It's kind of a shocking track, but on the album.. it's my Favorite Song!!!

Overall, this album is worth downloading. If you're looking to expand your underground horizon or just some fresh hip-hop, then this album is for you. It's got the best beats out there, and it's got the hottest up and coming/established underground rappers in the game.

Willie The Kid: Broadway Alley (feat. Big Joe, S-Class Sonny & A1)

One of the most underrated rappers in the game flexes over an old school, strings oriented beat. This seems to be a Detroit posse cut, considering I don't know any of the featuring artists. That second guy (S-Class Sonny) can fuckin' spit: "We all trying to bubblin' like this the ginger ale life." And of course... Willie fuckin murked it: "I'm silver spoon fed while you spoonin' with a bum bitch." HA! Willie's got such a unique way of flowing.

James Wade: Any Hustle (feat. Ace of Blocstars)

Another one from the kid's "The Ugly Show." I gave this mixtape a second listen and this track is definitely is one that slept on. Although Atlanta has been fallin off as of lately in terms of rap talent, this guy looks to put them back on the map.
Now back to the song. It's got a very dark beat fitted with a dope Jay-Z sample. James Wade talks about how he's played the game to make millions. Nice song.

B.o.B: Strange Clouds (feat. Lil Wayne)

Arguably the most anticipated song of the past month and definitely Bobby Ray's most anticipated song. It's got a really electronic and space-like beat. It's not doubt.. a party song. The chorus is about smokin and drinking and it just gets you hyped up. I thought that Bobby's debut album was pretty nice. It wasn't really a hip hop album, but it was extremely musical. This is more of the type of song rap fans were looking for from B.o.B. It's definitely nice to hear Bobby rapping again. His first verse is crazy: "I'm on point like a decimilist." Nice. Oh and the Tunechi aka the best rapper alive kills it: "You hot as an igloo, kickback on that glock, jiu-jitsu." Crazy song.

Chevy Woods: The Cookout

This has been getting some serious hate. I'm not sure why. The beats here are AMAZING. Chevy is a very good emcee, and the tape is littered with Khalifa features. For real, people have been asking "where is Wiz at? He just disappeared after Rolling Papers." But now this tape drops and people are starting this "Wiz fell off" shit.. SMDH! Anyways, this could be one of my favorite projects of the year and it's a huge breakthrough for Chevy because he seems to have finally found his sound. It's not the most lyrical project ever, but then again is Taylor Gang music ever about "great substance." They make music that you can chill, dance to, and enjoy. And this tape allows you to do all three.

Tracklist:

1. Cookout (feat Wiz Khalifa)
- This song leaked a few months ago. ID Labs changed the beat a little big, but otherwise it's the same Taylor Gang anthem! Favorite Song!!!
2. Downfall (feat. Wiz Khalifa) - Chevy speaks on his bitches and his homies. The saxophone is ridiculous on this Trakksounds produced beat. Wiz's flow is amazing here!
3. Napkins (feat. Wiz Khalifa) - Nice little 70's soul sample mixed with that underwater effect. Big Jerm did his thing. Chevy talks about stealin yo bitch! Wiz once again uses his fast flow here. Khalifa seriously flows his ass off on this tape
4. The Cool (feat. Wiz Khalifa) - Really southern beat here with those guitars. Chevy isn't particularly lyrical here, but Khalifa definitely does his thing.
5. Chi-Town - Not the average Cardo beat, considering the usage of instruments that could be used in a ballet ahah. "I kick game like Ronaldo, that's my goal." Right away Chevy starts things off hot. Very relaxing track.
6. Down
7. Crazy (feat. Wiz Khalifa) - Another leak from the album. This one slaps with those heavy 808's and low guitars. Big Jerm at his best once again. Chevy speaks on worrying about losing his sanity with all the fame. Khalifa.. fuckin flows with perfection again! It's verse like this one that puts Wiz in my favorites.
8. Cassette (feat. Wiz Khalifa) - This one sounds like it coulda been found on "Kush & OJ." Big Jerm hits us with another soul sampled hook and essentially the same drumbeat as the last track. Chevy talks about how slept on he is (it's true). Khalifa is a little lazy here, but he gets better as the verse goes on.
9. Aunts n Uncles (feat. Wiz Khalifa) - Chevy apologizes for his faults at the annual Taylor Gang family reunion! Nah but seriously, this is the type of thing you would play if you had a family dinner. Big Jerm on the beat again. Khalifa slows down the flow a lot here. The beat sounds at tiny bit like Asher Roth's "La Di Da"
10. Invitation (feat. Wiz Khalifa) - This beat sounds like it coulda been found on "Late Registration" or some other early Kanye album. Chevy speaks to the Taylor Gang fans and gives them an invitation to live the goodlife with him and Wiz.
11. Head Over Hills

Bei Majoer: Lights Down Low

I didn't really feel his last tape. But this song goes hard. He's actually singing here (which is nice), but I wish he had rapped a bit. This beat was perfect for going in on! Anyways, Bei talks sex over a very bouncy beat. Nice.

http://hulkshare.com/gjh9raybv7ak

Royce Da 5'9": Random Bars

Royce goin' off on a crazy Aarabmuzik beat for 3 minutes.. Do I need to see more? I love how he switches from his double time flow at random times in the song. THIS SONG IS FUCKING AWESOME!

http://hulkshare.com/3x21op5u7wz8

Plies: Just (The Tip) [feat. Jeremih & Ludacris]

Plies is garbage and the title of this song is ridiculous. But if you can get passed Plies's incoherant first verse.. then this song is awesome! The beat is amazing. Who knew a little piano riff and heavy 808's could work so well? Jeremih's chorus is gorgeous and Luda is back to DESTROYING verses. He used to be in my top 5 a few years ago, so it's nice to hear him killin it again.

http://hulkshare.com/d5x133b86l4c

Mac Miller: Smile Back

Ok I'm not much of Miller fan. But this is the best shit I've heard since "K.I.D.S." The bass on this song is mad nice! And lyrically he holds it down. I guess people are right, he has improved a bit. If the rest of "Blue Slide Park" sounds like this, then I'll actually give this album a decent listen. ID Labs on the beat>>>

http://hulkshare.com/egjbv2ny8r8b

Los: Anniversary

Nice little love song here. In all seriousness though, Los is one of the hottest rappers out. And he's from my hometown! But his flow and lyrics are crazyy here. It's amazing how he can spit such dope rhymes while keeping his focus. "Real love ain't senseless, just have a sense of humor." Damn. "The Crown Ain't Safe" needs to drop soon!

http://hulkshare.com/8cktav31x81t

D. Milano: Friday (Get Lifted Or Lay Low)

No idea who this guy is.. but he's dope. If you smoke, then you gotta give this tape a download.

1. Welcome To Friday
2. Get Blown (feat. D.Wayne) - D. Milano gets his Smoke DZA on for this one. The old school horns in this beat work perfecly. Also, that D. Wayne dude's flow is ridiculous! Favorite Song!!!
3. Mary Jane
4. 10 Crack Commandments (Remix)
5. Get Lifted Or Lay Low
6. Smoke With Your Groupies
7. High Life
8. Today Was A Goood Day
9. Marijuana Dreams (feat. D.Wayne)
10. 5 On it (Remix)
11.Everywhere I Go
12. Miami (How Does It Feel) [feat. Didda Joe]
13. Move On
14.So Gone (feat. D.Wayne)
15. Trust Issues
16. Friday Night High - Nice little J. Dilla sampled beat. Once again, Smoke DZA flow on this song.
17. Bound For Hollywood (feat. Topaz Jones)
18. Dreams Money Can Buy (Remix)
19. Headlines (Remix)
20. High School Party (feat. Jake Najera)
21. Won’t Let You Bring Me Down (feat. D.Wayne)
22. Never Fuck With Me
23. I Get High
24. Take It Off
25. For The Night
26.  Lets Get High
27. We Chillin (Hit A Banger)

Charles Hamilton: C.A.T.S. Can

It's about time this dude returns. The guy could be the best rapper in hip hop if he really put his mind to it. The freestyle at XXL (check this) provides all the evidence you need. Charles returns in better form than in years on this tape. He really seems like he's getting his life back together after his brief stint in rehab. I hope he can finally pull it together and put out his long awaited debut album. Seriously.. the guy has more potential than ANYONE in the game. He's once again on the verge from making it to being the biggest disappointment of the decade.

Tracklist:

1. Is Beyonce Really With Jay-Z
2. An Answer Giving Hook
3. One 4 JC
4. Jeff Distin Meetings
5. Linda Cole's Entrance Music
6. @Beyonce (The Jenny Baker Collection)
7. Miss Jarrett's Turtle Poster
8. Smokey Robinson's L
- This one's a real relaxed jammer. I liked it a lot. Half the time I love stoner music. His infectious moaning at the end of the song really works here.
9. CATS Said I Can Diss You (9th is cool tho) - Damnn, Charles goes off here. He's got a dope 9th Wonder beat which is sick! Hamilton is going for the top spot. The amount of people that he disses in this song is ridiculous. Here's the list of people he dissed: Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Jadakiss, Drake, Lil Wayne, Keri Hilson, Wiz Khalifa, Waka Flocka, Kid Cudi, Kanye West, 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jam Master Jay, Eminem and Yung Nate. Man this dude Charles is crazy. Gotta love him for this one. Classic CH. Favorite Song!!!
10. Who Is From The 10th
11. B In The Rain

James Wade: Cheers (feat. Devon Wade, Lauren Eylise, Aaron Grant, Emily Cooper, Justin McSwain, & Keyaira Hill)

James Wade really became a big name for me after I heard his mixtape “Popular Stranger” way back in 2010. “Smile” and “On My Way” were my shit! Wade continues his excellent production choices on this track. Wade gets introspective about his life as a youth. Really good storytelling from him on this one. Also, Devon Wade (his brother) kicks rhymes along side James. He’s not quite as good as an emcee as James. It’s really cool to hear two siblings talk about there different routes through life to get to the point they’re at, especially considering they came from the same household. If you want the rest of James’ mixtape, then download it here: The Ugly Show

Big K.R.I.T.: Money On the Floor (feat. 8Ball, MJG & 2 Chainz)

Big K.R.I.T. is back! After a slew of successful production credits/features, K.R.I.T. hits us with his first single from “Live from the Underground.” I’m gonna call it now; he’s the legend from the south. His consistency is undeniable. He’s got the same flow as Big Boi and the same voice/delivery as Chamillionaire. Best off, he produces his own songs (and is excellent behind the boards). He links up with the southern heroes 8Ball & MJG to create a beautifully down-south sounding jam. Complete with a chopped and screwed chorus about money. And guess what? 2 Chainz didn’t ruin the song! The guy might have the worst flow in the rap game, but this beat is slow enough that he actually fits with it. K.R.I.T.’s album is looking to be my most anticipated album of the first quarter of 2012.

9th Wonder: The Wonder Years

Same case here. This is the leak for 9th  Wonder’s latest album. Review coming next week.

J. Cole: Cole World (Sideline Story)

Not gonna write much, but here’s the leak of “Cole World.” Early favorite is: Dollar and a Dream III. Full review coming next week when it drops.

Domo Genisis: More Clouds (feat. Remy Banks)

Domo Genesis is Odd Future’s stoner. Every rap group has one. But here’s the thing, he’s really a solid rapper. Domo has slowly moved up to the top of the favorites in the extremely deep ODWGKTA crew. This song is not only a weed song, but brings the listener back to a late 1990’s southern sound. Although Frank Ocean and Domo are completely different lanes than the rest of their crew, I feel that the fit right into the diverse group that makes up Odd Future. If you want the rest of the tape, here it is: Under The Influence
