9th Wonder: The Wonder Years

9th Wonder is definitely one of the illest producers out there. His signature chopped up sampling is legendary across the hip-hop game. "The Wonder Years" features countless impressive underground instrumentals mixed with the most well-known underground emcees in the game. Overall, the album is a great project and introduction to 9th's work.

Tracklist:

1. Make It Big (feat. Khrysis)
2. Band Practice Part 2 (feat. Phonte & Median)
- From the moment this song starts, it captures your interest as Tigolo says "I wanna kiss you" ahaha. Then the beat drops and Phonte goes off over the boom bap instumental. From there, the two emcees kick rhymes back and forth. Nice track.
3. Enjoy (feat. Warren G, Murs & Kendrick Lamar)
4. Streets of Music (feat. Tanya Morgan & Enigma)
5. Hearing The Melody (feat. Skyzoo, Fashawn & King Mez)
6. Loyalty (feat. Masta Killa & Halo) - This is a real J Dilla sounding beat, but it's got that signature 9th Wonder sampling on it. Masta Killa does a surprising verse because he really gives the ladies some crooning (which is different than his typical raps of violence). Very relaxing track. Killa really works over this type of a beat.
7. Now I’m Being Cool (feat. Mela Machinko & Mez)
8. Never Stop Loving You (feat. Terrace Martin & Talib Kweli)
9. Piranhas (feat. Blu & Sundown) - Blu's been all over the place lately. The moment this beat starts off, you know he's gonna kill it. Sundown (who sounds a lot like Royce Da 5'9") also goes off on this beat. This one's a must have. The beat is vintage 9th shit right here.
10. Peanut Butter & Jelly (feat. Marsha Ambrosius)
11. One Night (feat. Terrace Martin, Phonte, & Bird and The Midnight Falcons)
12. Your Smile (feat. Holly Weerd & Thee Tom Hardy)
13. No Pretending (feat. Raekwon & Big Remo)
14. 20 Feet Tall (feat. Erykah Badu & Rapsody)
15. That’s Love (feat. Mac Miller & Heather Victoria)
16. A Star U R (feat. Terrace Martin, Problem & GQ)
17. Band Practice (feat. Phonte)
18. Me & My Nuh (feat. Teedra Moses)
19. Base for Your Face (feat. Phonte, Jean Grae & Lil B) - The song leaked a few months ago but it's still just as shocking as when it first dropped. Based God definitely holds his own over a very classic instrumental. Jean Grae... damn that girl's a problem. She's my favorite female emcee in the game HANDS DOWN. And Phonte does his thing as always. It's kind of a shocking track, but on the album.. it's my Favorite Song!!!

Overall, this album is worth downloading. If you're looking to expand your underground horizon or just some fresh hip-hop, then this album is for you. It's got the best beats out there, and it's got the hottest up and coming/established underground rappers in the game.
